Feeding Programs:  Meeting A Need

Living day to day and not knowing where your next meal will come from can be a daunting obstacle to face. Unfortunately, this is not uncommon for most of the people whom Passion Partners serves. To combat this problem, Passion Partners supports several programs to ensure that this most basic need is met including the Family Spirit Feeding Program; the provision of food for the girls of the Purity Project through home visits; and the feeding of the girls at the Restoration Home.

Restoration Home

One of the greatest expenses of the Restoration Home is the feeding of the 42 teenage girls who reside at the home.  Passion Partners provides the girls of the Restoration Home with a well balanced diet that ensures they receive the nutrients needed to live a healthy and productive life.

Usingo Feeding Program

From 2011 to 2013, Passion Partners funded a feeding program at the Usingo Primary School, in Siaya, Kenya, a local school in which most of the children are orphans. In addition to the feeding program, Passion Partners also installed a well at the school to not only benefit its students, but the surrounding community as well.

Some of the benefits of the feeding program included:

  • Fed over 400 students each day
  • Provided access to healthier and more nutritious food
  • Fostered a better learning environment, which led to improved attendance and academic performance
  • Operated by the parents of the students in conjunction with a nutritionist from the Ashburn Ohuru Medical Clinic
  • Provided access to clean water for an estimated 3,000 people

Project: Purity

An unique feature of Project: Purity includes monthly home visits in which staff members go to the home of one of the girls in the program. While there, they spend time with the student and her family, and provide for additional needs such as school uniforms, food, and other basic items. Each girl chosen for a home visit is identified in collaboration with the school officials based on need.

Masindi Family Spirit Feeding Program

Founded by Isaac Rufunda Nyakoojo and Susan Anganita in 2003, Family Spirit was birthed on a voluntary humanitarian basis to provide care, support, housing and education to the children around Masindi, Uganda who were struggling as a result of war, violence, and HIV/AIDS.

In 2011, a group of families from Nashville began engaging in mission work with Family Spirit. In the course of their mission work, the Nashville families recognized that the children of Family Spirit were not consistently receiving meals. Hence their desire to initiate the Masindi feeding program at the Family Spirit orphanage. In an effort to grow the feeding program beyond its current capacity and add oversight of the project, the families decided to engage in a strategic partnership with Passion Partners.
